The subconscious mind runs 95% of our lives. Each day is largely run on a series of habits, involuntary actions and automatic behaviours. For example, we don’t normally have to think how to dress ourselves in the morning. One of the important roles of the subconscious is to keep us safe and ensure that we survive, which is why fear and trauma can affect us so enormously both individually and collectively. It is the mind of our guiding intuition, instincts, protective reactions, imagination, feelings and emotions. It is here our beliefs, perceptions, values and long-term memories reside that make up who we are.
The Power of the Mind has been used by mankind to empower and heal himself since records began. It continues to be used in many hospitals and clinics, depending on where you live, to help with healing, pain control and childbirth and in some instances to reduce or replace anaesthetics. The Power of Belief, and the Mind/Body connection are so well recognised that they are used in “placebo” groups as an integral part of clinical trials. The Power of the Mind is used by many top sports coaches and sportsmen. It is also used in businesses and entertainment. For many in their personal lives, it is a way to achieve success and reach their goals.
From 0 – 7 years old we learn and absorb an enormous amount of information using our subconscious mind. We learn through repetition and observation and from who we consider to be the “authoritative” figures in our lives. We learn behaviour patterns and form the beliefs about ourselves and the world all around us. These beliefs and behaviours follow us through life and affect every part of our lives, whether they are positive or negative, often without us being aware. It is not until the “critical factor” develops after approximately 7 years old that the information we are presented with is filtered according to whether it is is considered true or false, right or wrong as critical thinking, analysis and judgment skills develop. These core beliefs and behaviours play a critical role in our perceptions, how we feel about life and ourselves, our decisions, relationships, success and our whole lives.
Hypnotherapy gets right down to the root cause of what is holding you back from achieving your goals. We use our conscious mind to decide what we would like to achieve. However, if our infinitely more powerful subconscious is not in agreement and is working in the opposite direction, it makes it far more difficult to succeed. One of the aims of hypnotherapy is to get your conscious and subconscious minds working together, in the same direction and in harmony with each other, to enable your success. Our beliefs, perceptions, imagination and feelings play an enormous part in our lives, which is why hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind where they all reside.
New ideas ‘suggestions’ are introduced into the subconscious mind during hypnosis which support your desired goal. The subconscious mind learns through repetition. A highly individualised reprogramming audio is therefore included for you to listen to which encourages the new ideas to become firmly established in accordance with your wishes. Please note that generic ‘scripts’ are not used, each audio is created individually, working closely with the client.
Trance is completely natural, we go in and out of trance many times a day, for instance when we are watching television or reading a good book, and become totally absorbed. It is a narrowing down and intensifying of our focus, an increase in our awareness and a quietening of our conscious analytical mind, very similar to meditation. Hypnosis is the process of inducing trance, bypassing the critical factor so we can work directly with the subconscious mind while it is in a receptive state which enables fast and effective change. Hypnosis is consensual. Whilst in trance you remain completely in control, in fact if anything you gain control, and although you may appear to be asleep you are in fact in a state of high awareness. Stage hypnosis has a completely different aim from therapy, it often has a selection process and there are many other factors involved.
